Why we need to drink more water.

  • A 5% reduction in hydration results in a 25% reduction in energy.
  • Water helps carry nutrients to the cells.
  • Water helps transport waste tot he kidneys and lungs for excretion.
  • Water helps carry hormones and immune cells through the bloodstream.
  • Water is a necessary element for the process of metabolism and digestion of food.
  • Water assists in regulating body temperature.
  • Water helps protect and cushion tissues and lubricates the joints.
  • Water provides a full feeling, assists in the regulation of bowels and aids in relieving such disorders as constipation.

How much to drink.

You should drink 1/3 of your body weight (in pounds) in fluid oz/day. For example, someone weighting 150 pounds should drink 50 fl. oz. every day, or about 6.25 cups. 

You should drink an additional 8 fl. oz. for every vice – for every cup of coffee, can of soda, sugary treat, or alcoholic beverage. 

You should also drink an additional 8 fl. oz. for every 20 minutes of exercise.
